Let them be little

My kids are growing too fast. Every time they talk to me the last few days I find myself studying their precious little faces and noticing how much they have grown up lately. I've been squeezing their cheeks more and kissing their foreheads more and running my fingers through their hair more and I just don't want to miss a single thing! I was just rocking Noah to bed and after I finished singing "I am a Child of God" he reached his little arm up around my neck and just hugged me for a few minutes. He is the sweetest little thing and I don't ever want to forget how his chubby little arms feel wrapped around my neck! The most precious jewels I will ever have around my neck are the arms of my children. I hope they all know how much I really and truly adore them. Porter is so thoughtful and helpful with Noah. He is my little old man. He likes nonfiction books, collarless shirts, food without any sort of spice, and a tidy house. He gets motion sick very easily and doesn't like big crowds. Logan is my little teddy bear. Tonight we had a conversation that went like this:
Logan: I wish I was as big as Dad.
Me: I'm glad you aren't as big as Dad. I'm glad you are my boy and I wish you could stay just like this forever.
Logan: Why?
Me: Because you grow too fast and I love you just the way you are!
Logan: Well, you know I'm going to grow up one day. And then I'll be as big as Dad.
Me: Yes, I know. And I will love you then, too.
Logan: (A little worried) Mom... will I have to move out of this house?
Me: Well, we are all going to move out of this house soon. All of us together into our new house!
Logan: No, I mean, when I'm a grown up. (holding back tears) I will have to move into my own house.
I sat down on the bench and put my hand on his shoulder...
Me: Logan, you can always always always always stay with me. As long as you want to and are happy living with me, you can stay with me forever!
Logan: (Big smile) Really?!
Me: Really! And even if you do decide to live in your own house, you can come visit me and Dad ANYTIME you want to. My home will always be your home.
Logan: Thanks, Mom! I love you so much.

I know I know there are some people who would hear that and think: "Really?! You would want your grown son to live with you forever and ever?!" I wasn't talking to my grown son. I was talking to my sweet as can be 5-year-old son.

Jessie and I went to a lovely tea party at my friend Nancy's house today. We drank Kool-Aid tea and had yummy snacks and painted our nails and toenails. It is so fun to spend time with just her. She soaks up any girly time she can get and so do I! She sure keeps us fancy around here!

I mostly keep this journal stuff directed towards the kids, but I really should write more about Jared. He ran a triathalon a couple of weeks ago and won first place and broke the old record by 4 minutes! He is always kind to me. And patient. Very, very patient. As I am typing away here he is folding laundry and waiting for me to watch "Breaking Dawn" that we Red Box-ed. I read that book aloud to him on one of our road trips to Colorado and you know... it was a little painful. I guess since no one knows this blog is here I can say something critical. That book was not good. There we go, but gotta see the movie anyway. That's how we roll around here. xoxo
