Broken Camera

I have just been using my cell phone to take pictures, so my pictures lately are not so good and I have to figure out how to upload them to this here blog. What is a blog without pictures? It's a journal. That's what it is.

We just got back from Jacob and Carly's wedding up in Portland, OR a few days ago. Jared's parents rented a beautiful lodge for the family to stay at for the week and "Lovely" doesn't even begin to describe it. That being said, it's always always always good to be home. Justin took some great pictures and as soon as he emails them to us I will upload them here.

I have been trying to figure out the best routine each day for my little family. Mealtimes, bedtimes, grooming, and reading are easy and we've pretty much done the same thing since Porter was born. Sometimes it's hard to be really structured the rest of the day because they just love to play. We are never, ever, bored. So much to do, so much to talk about, so much to play. That being said, they need to learn responsibility and such, so I've been trying to make sure we do morning chores, evening chores, organized exercise (usually yoga), organized learning, and a craft/coloring each day. Sometimes we just don't squeeze all that in. But there is always lots of love and laughter here and that is what matters the most.

Porter: Amazing swimmer. Every Wednesday we go over to the Swenson's house to swim. They have the coolest pool complete with a rock slide and cave. Porter and Preston are in the same Primary class and get along really well. Preston is just so funny - we love that kid and the rest of his family. Porter is so responsible and is wise beyond his years. He is very practical and logical, but very creative with things like play-doh and legos. Today the little kids were practicing writing the letter "B" and Porter's writing exercise was "If I lived on a boat..." I will have to post a picture when I figure out how to do that from my phone.

Logan: Adventurer. Everything turns into an adventure with Logan. Last night we talked about what a testimony is for FHE... and long after the lesson was over Logan was still drawing pictures and telling us all about the amazing things happening in the pictures, like me and him getting caught in a giant's red hair and having to cut ourselves out with swords some pirates gave us in a storm. Today for a snack I made "banana boats" surrounded by blueberries (water) and goldfish crackers (...fish) and Logan was constantly acting out some kind of epic and the last one to finish (as always) and I LOVE that about him. He also is always the first to want to help me with something in the kitchen. Sweetheart.

Jessie: Holds her own in this house full of boys. She will dress up in costumes and fight right alongside Captain America and Superman. Lately her favorite super-heroine is Elastagirl (from "The Incredibles") and she is so darn adorable. She is so smart and colors some beautiful pictures. If we ever paint she is the last one to get down and finally wash up. I think she has real artistic talent and it will be fun to see where she goes with it. My mom says she is just like me, right down to her stubbornness. (OBVIOUSLY my mother doesn't know me THAT well). The problem is that Jessie usually wins because she wants to do absolutely everything in her own way and in her own time, so I only pick a few battles. Very, very few.  And you know what? I'm glad she has her own opinions about how I do her hair and how she sweeps the floor and what food tastes good.

Noah: Saying more and more words, but "Mom!" is definitely the most used and I love it. Today I stuck a longish toothpick into some play-doh and gave him some cheerios to stack on it while I cleaned the kitchen. He loved this and did it quite fast, so I stuck another toothpick into the dough and, you may want to sit down for this, he picked up the bottom cheerio from his stack, carefully lifted the entire stack off of the toothpick, and gently placed it on the other one. A few cheerios fell off the stack at the very end, but I was tickled pink watching him do this (note: I wasn't cleaning the kitchen very fast). That is why I love doing little projects with my children: I get to see their little minds work and get a little better glimpse of their personalities.

I am so blessed to be mother to these amazing souls. xo
