Better Later Than Never

Now that Cody is 7 weeks old, I thought I better start updating our lives on here before I get {more} forgetful!

Cody was born March 5 at 11:10 p.m. He weighed 8 lbs 8 oz and was 21 inches long. My due date was March 1st, and my induction date was March 6. I guess Cody likes to get things done just in the nick of time, like his mama.  The night before the baby was born, Logan prayed that I would have Cody the next day so the doctor wouldn't have to "make him come out." I am so grateful Heavenly Father heard the prayer of my sweet boy. Not only did I not want to get induced (and spend more time in the hospital), this was a faith-builder for all of us.

I went walking every night with Jared (his parents came down to stay with the kids while we went to the hospital, so we had freedom to do such spontaneous things) and I would get LOTS of contractions, but they went away when I sat still for too long. The morning of March 5, I was still having contractions, so when Jared woke up I said, "Today's the Day!" I cleaned the house and Jared took me on a few walks that day to keep those contractions going and the rest is history. And apparently I looked awesome doing it. (This is sarcasm, folks).

Cody was born very alert, like the rest of our kids. He didn't cry at all after my midwife handed him to me and I thought he was the most beautiful thing in the world. I don't think I have ever felt closer to heaven. {insert jared's pictures here}

Cody's cheeks were very squishy when he was born and he's always done a funny little wrist-twitch when he wakes up. He has TONS of copper-colored hair and has the sweetest smell in the world. Now he is smiling and cooing all the time and follows me around the room with his eyes. He LOVES lights and can't bring himself to look away from them.

I got to come home the very next afternoon which was great. Between the adrenaline rush of having a baby and nurses checking on the two of us every hour or so, I didn't get any sleep in the hospital. By the time I got home that adrenaline had wore off and I was feeling exhausted and missing the kids and home terribly. Jared's mom bought a bunch of baby boy decorations and helped the kids make that sign Porter is holding. They were all jumping and yelling as soon as we pulled onto our street. I laughed and laughed at how excited they all were. Here are some pictures Joy took, and we can document how the kids dress themselves and do their own hair.
