Today is gone, today was fun, tomorrow is another one

Today was fun. Porter and Logan had soccer games and we went to a birthday party. I exfoliated this morning and forgot to wear a hat, so I think I have a tiny sunburn. So much for trying to take care of my skin. Yesterday was fun, too. I like any excuse to celebrate and it was Dr. Seuss' birthday, so we started the day with a Green Eggs and Ham breakfast, pink ink drink (strawberry milk) and star-bellied Sneetches (bananas with a star drawn on the peel). Actually, only a few of the bananas had stars because I wanted to illustrate that a banana is still just a banana once you take the peel off. And we are all just people. Judging others because of things like "stars" is a waste of time and energy.

Porter loved the Dr. Seuss-themed lunch I packed him. When I asked him what his favorite part was, he told me it was all of the notes I wrote him. :) Logan and Jessie spent the afternoon painting hard-boiled eggs green and helping me make Thing One and Thing Two cupcakes (thank you, Pinterest). After making eggs for breakfast and hard-boiling another package, I didn't have enough eggs left for the cake batter. Whoopsie! Luckily the third neighbor did have plenty of eggs and was happy to share them with me, along with a bunch of other stuff from her pantry and fridge she wanted to get rid of before their trip to Europe. While she was cleaning out her kitchen she didn't stop talking and I was happy to listen, but we needed to get home so we could make those cupcakes before Porter was done with school. So she came over and made cupcakes with us and talked about her grandchildren. Don't you love when things work out? I needed eggs and she needed ears and we were there for each other. :)

After dinner we delivered some of our extra cupcakes to friends and then told the kids we'd buy some popcorn so we could go home and watch "Horton Hears a Who." I am surprised the kids were okay with this. You see, they don't love to ride around in the car sans electronics. I love to make popcorn at home and I do a few times a week. Not ONE of them said, "Mom, let's just go home and make some popcorn." As soon as we pulled onto Main Street Jessie said, "We're going to the theater, right?" So I said, "Well, they do have the best popcorn!" Then Logan said, "Mom! We should see 'The Lorax' at the theater!" I told him that I didn't know if it was showing yet and it was already getting late. Porter was being very quiet through all of this, but they were all super excited when I pulled their tickets out of my bag and Porter claims he was very surprised. :) I sorta think he might have been pretending to be surprised at that point, but that's okay. Noah was a perfect baby all through the movie. He actually watched a lot of it and stayed happy with snacks and such. We always have fun at the movies, but let's just say... "Horton Hears a Who" and "The Grinch" are still our favorite Dr. Seuss movies.

While Jessie was in her dance class yesterday, I was reading "Oh, The Places You'll Go" (We've pretty much only read Dr. Seuss the last few days) to Logan and Noah and I got very teary. I love my kiddos soooooo much and I hope they feel that. I hope that when they are "in the wide open air" or in the "gloppity goo" or "mixed up" or "waiting" they REMEMBER this story and that "YOU are the one who'll decide where to go." I also hope they remember that I will always be in their corner cheering them on.

xoxo
