Jessie Ruth

We were listening to some Sesame Street music in the car and Jessie said, "You know what? I think Cookie Monster is right." I replied, "Oh? And what is Cookie Monster right about?" Very sincerely, Jessie said, "I think that 'cookie' DOES start with 'C.'" She's one smart cookie.

The other day we were eating lunch and Logan was bugged I gave him milk to drink. Jessie said, "Logan, milk is good for you AND it tastes really good... except when you throw it up." (Note: she actually threw up milk earlier that morning. Fluke thing). We were all silent, not really sure what to say to that. Then, somehow Jessie slipped right down her chair! I was worried she might have hurt herself but she just stayed laying down on her chair. So after a minute I said, "Okay, Jessie, you need to sit up and finish eating." I saw her little hand reach up and fish around for a graham cracker. She got one, brought it down, ate it, and said, "I can eat like this. I'm very tricky." (Which was heard: "ficky.") She makes the "f" sound for the "t" sound, which is inappropriate sometimes. "Oh look! A big, big truck!" Say what?!)

Jessie helped me make trail mix the other day. There were considerably less M&M's by the time I spooned the mix into snack bags. Hmm... Oh, and remember how she tries to convince all of us Logan is littler than her? Well, she put a very small amount of trail mix in one of the snack bags and kept saying that one was for Logan. I asked her, "Don't you think he'll want more than that?" She simply replied, "No, I don't think so. I think this is just right." Funny thing is, Logan is going through quite the little growth spurt and eats all the time. All. The. Time. Which is a good thing - I like a kid with a good appetite!

Last week we had a few rainy days. Did you know that I love rainy days? Always have, and somehow I've ended up in the sunniest part of the country. Funny how things work out. I remember when I was in the fourth grade it rained for a month straight. It was more of a drizzle, but it didn't stop for a month. Everyone was talking about it getting depressing and I never thought so at all. I loved the wet and the grey and the sweaters and the puddles. Anyway... so I made soup on this particular rainy day after I got the boys to school. The three of us left home read some books and Noah took a nap. Then Jessie and I spent the rest of the afternoon snuggled on the couch watching "Little Bear" and listening to rain fall. It was perfect.

Jessie and Noah had been in their room playing for quite some time, so I decided to check on them. This is what I found.

They hardly even noticed I was there.
