Noah is my only child who loves creamy cilantro dressing as much as I do. I call it my "special sauce" but I might start calling Noah that, too. He literally tries to drink the stuff and tonight he just kept wanting "more" of it on everything. Hopefully he got some nutritional value from the beans, meat, and tomatoes I kept putting on his plate, too. He says "more" a lot. It's one of his trademarks.

Jessie is always saying the funniest things. Today we were driving by the high school as all the kids were leaving for the day. She said, "Hey! Why are those girls crossing the street and not holding hands?"
I told her they were teenagers.
"I know that! They should know better!"
Oh my word I laughed so hard. Later today we were in the kitchen and I asked her to go tell her brothers it was time to put their ipods away.
"Okay, Mommy." Then she turned her body, but did not move her feet.
"PORTER AND LOGAN! MOM SAID IT'S TIME TO PUT YOUR IPODS AWAY!"

Yesterday I was in Logan and Noah's room helping Noah get dressed. Logan looked around his room and observed, "Man, I wonder how my room got messy so fast."
"I don't know, Logan. I think the kitchen always gets messy fast. What is all the stuff that's out."
"Well, those are my clothes. I guess I should put those in the hamper. Oh, these are my shoes. I guess I should put these in the shoe cubby. Oh, those are my pajamas. Are these still clean? I guess I can put those away. Hmm. It's already looking great in here!"
I didn't comment. Hopefully he sorta figured it out. :)

We eat lunch with Porter every Wednesday and I always really look forward to it. His reading teacher told me they are starting to read about science stuff and she said that morning Porter exclaimed, "This is what I'm talking about, Mrs. Rice! This is the kind of stuff we need to be reading about all the time: real things instead of those pretend stories about animals that can talk." They are now learning about the human body and I asked Porter what he could tell me about it. He said, "Mom, you already know all that stuff. I already know all that stuff. I'm not learning anything and it's really boring until we get to do the activities." Normally a comment like this would make me skeptical, but the kid has literally been reading our encyclopedias for pleasure since he was in kindergarten. I think he knows more than I do about the human body, but definitely more than what could be offered to a second grade class.

Today I told the kids I'd pay them a dollar to put a fresh coat of white paint on the mailbox post. The post looks great! Never mind there is white paint all over the yard. Maybe I'll just pretend it's snow. There is also some white paint on the sidewalk I haven't figured out how I'm going to get out. Noah was pretty much covered in white paint and Jessie got a fair amount in her hair. You make choices and you live with them. That's what I always say. Next time I think I'll just offer the job to one kid and bag the "family bonding" nonsense.
