Despite what my kid-friendly wardrobe exudes, I really do like fashion

It's just a little strange to see certain trends come back in style. I'll admit, I didn't think the legging trend would last and I've spent probably $100 on leggings since I first saw them in a catalog as an adult. I remember being in elementary school wearing leggings and big sweaters, so it was a little jarring to see those on models my age-ish. However, I loved leggings then and I love them now. And I'm not a fashion expert. Deal with it. Anyway... I took my pre-k kids and Noah Garner to Jump Up the other day and couldn't help but notice the fashion trends right now. I like most of them even though we will all scoff at them in future years. Like skinny jeans (as long as they are paired with a loose top for balance). One girl was wearing an oversized shirt with cut-off shorts and cowboy boots. A look I sported frequently in my younger years and can't pull off anymore, but I still think it's adorable. I like the pastel pants with stripes, but they are EVERYWHERE, especially among Mormon women for some reason. There was a gal wearing pastel pants and a denim shirt and she did look cute, but she is the kind of person that would probably look great in anything. Then my memory-association thing kicked in and I realized why I just can't jump on this trend. I wore denim shirts all the time in junior high school. I had some pastel pants, too, and even wore them together sometimes. I just don't want to spend money on clothes I discarded over a decade ago. More to the point, I really DON'T want to feel like I did in junior high. (There's the memory-association thing. Jared thinks I need therapy. Certain things like Kenny G, 80's music in the dentist office, the artificial smell of peaches, Chinese take-out, etc. make me feel very depressed for some reason and Jared claims I have some weird memory-association thing going on and need to figure it out so I can properly enjoy Panda Express. We can add denim shirts to that list.) So, if you ever see me wearing a denim shirt paired with pastel pants you either need to shoot me or be extra kind to me. It could only mean I'm going through some kind of pre-midlife crisis and would rather feel like I did at the most awkward time in my existence than however I do right now.We don't have to worry about that today, though. I don't feel old, even if all of this is supposed to make me feel old, it doesn't. But if this is what "old" feels like, it's great! Much better than 13.
