I love Saturdays like this

The kids aren't in any sports right now. I purposely didn't sign them up for anything this season with a busy husband and new baby on the way. We had a late breakfast and actually had time to visit instead of rushing off to school.

We went to a car wash/chicken lunch to raise funds for a little boy with cancer. The chicken and tamales were really good! Then we came home and the kids rode their bikes and scooters around for a bit. I tried to teach Noah to ride the tricycle, but he's not quite there yet. I know he has the ability, it's just that when I stop pushing him along he realizes after a few pedals that it's a lot harder to do all alone... so I guess he just lacks motivation. Porter tried to find Annie, but didn't.*

Noah found my nail polish and was painting his toes and fingers a dazzling shade of pink. I know Jared is comfortable in his manhood because his response to Noah was, "You need your mom's help with that." Noah gave Jessie and I an idea, though. We even used the same shade of pink! This is a favorite Saturday pastime for us. She is simply delightful. She said, "I LOVE painting my nails!" I told her I did, too, and that it made me feel pretty. "She said, 'Yes, me too! Girls should do something every day to feel pretty!'" I think that's great advice, don't you? And then she said she needed sparkles on hers, so that's what we did. Every single time her nails are wet with fingernail polish, she will get an itch on her nose or ear or something and it becomes an emergency. Of course I scratch it for her and I just think it's hilarious to see her cute little face twist up in panic when she gets an itch and then relax after I "get it." I think next time I'll just set up the recorder somewhere so we can get a video clip of this.

Jared was playing the Mario Brothers with the boys today, and when they saved the Princess Peach the look on Jessie's face was priceless!

We had to run a few errands this evening that we thought would be quick. Jared and I learned lessons in patience and the (older) kids (hopefully) learned lessons in, well... patience. Just a different kind of patience than Jared and I. We ended on a positive note even if we got the kids to bed 2 hours late. When we finally sat down to read a book Porter said, "Dang my legs are tired. I don't know how teachers stay on their feet all day!" Then the kids had a good laugh watching and feeling the baby move around. He is so wiggly! And it's especially funny because if we tickle my belly he will move quite a bit. I am getting so excited to meet this little guy! I hope he keeps cooking until March, though. I am really looking forward to snuggling him and having an excuse to sit down for a minute. The older boys are exhausting with all their science experiments, bike rides, and air guitar-ing to Green Day. Oh and they know more about superheroes than I do now.

*Oh yeah, Annie ran away. For the thousandth time. This time she didn't come back. Feel sad and guilty about it because a pet (no matter how pesky) is still a person's responsibility. We looked for her and it's been 10 days now. She drove me batty some days, so I would just put her in the backyard. Confession: it's been nice to let the kids and Domino use the back gate, the garage door, the front door, and not worry about her scurrying out (because the only sound she would respond to was a door opening). Pretty sure I could write an entire post about this, but I won't, because we're all about the love here. I just hope she's in some kind person's backyard.
