Logan: Mom, there's a really big fly in your bathroom. I think it's actually a bee. WAIT, what if it's a black widow? WAIT, I know it couldn't be a black widow because they can't fly. WAIT, what if it was just hanging on part of it's web? WAIT, it couldn't be because spiders can't buzz. WAIT, spiders can't buzz, right?
Me: Nope. Lets go find out what it is.
Jessie: Well, it's definitely not a cape buffalo. We'd really have problems if it was a cape buffalo.
Logan talking to Cody in the car: ...and Mom loves you and Dad loves you and I love you, of course. I even love myself!
Jessie: (amused) What? You love yourself?
Logan: Yes, loving yourself means like...
Jessie: Like you love your skin...
Logan: No. Well, kind of. It means that you are happy just being you.
Me: (a little teary) Where did you learn that?
Logan: I've known that since I was a little kid.
Me: Oh good. Well don't you forget it!
I'm sorry to say that he did NOT learn that from me.
Logan's depiction of Jared and I as ninjas.
Noah saw me changing into my grubbies. He let me know he didn't like my fashion choice by saying "Mommy, Mom, why? Like that..." But he was shaking his head "no" when he said it. He's kind of funny that way - you have to be looking at him to know if what he's saying is a yes or no. With a newborn in my arms all the time I'm painfully aware of how active Noah is. I am so glad we have a pool. He just needs to be moving all the time and he loves to swim so it works out well. He insisted on wearing his goggles the other day when we were out and about I let him because I pick my battles. For about an hour before we left he really wanted to swim and got all ready (including goggles), but I won that battle (I'm not bragging. I feel like a failure the minute a kid starts arguing with me and throwing a fit). So I let him keep his swim goggles on for our morning errands (he got tired of them after about a half hour).
Speaking of swimming....
Domino goes into a terrible fit of barks when the kids get in the water. At first I thought, "How great, I have another lifegaurd on duty..." But he's gotten out of control. He can't handle all the splashing and kids being somewhere he can't "herd" them, so he barks and barks and barks and nips until we've had enough and put him inside. Porter and Logan got the best of him the other day. Porter got out on one side of the pool so Domino would run after him, barking like a maniac. Porter jumped into the pool and splashed him and made him bark more. Logan got out on the other side of the pool so Domino would chase him, but also jumped into the pool and splashed Domino. Well, the boys did this for a few minutes and before long Domino slipped right into the water and went for a little swim! He didn't want to stay in there long and then calmed down for about 10 minutes, but he went right back to his obnoxious habit, so as soon as he was dry and didn't "stink like a wet dog!" as Jessie said, he went inside for the rest of the afternoon.
Porter has a few Lego encyclopedias and he reads them cover to cover, along with our other encyclopedias. He's really into building weapons right now for all of the minifigures, especially those in the Ninjago collection. He has even been building some really rare ones for Logan. Logan came up to me when Porter was playing outside. He looked a little worried and in a hushed voice he said, "Mom, I have a problem!" I asked, "What is it?" He said, "Well, Porter's been building me all these weapons and they are really cool. I want to build him something, but I don't know what to build him that he doesn't already have." We quickly came up with something simple but unique and it was fun to see Logan feel good about giving Porter something and for Porter to receive it gladly. I'm so thankful to have kids that get along so well and look after each other so well.
